At least 13 people were killed in an attack on Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan on August 10, with most of the victims reported to be foreign nationals, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said preliminary information indicated that eight citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Tajikistan were among those killed. Around 20 foreign nationals were also reported injured.
The Russian side accused Ukraine of carrying out the attack against civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk. Zakharova alleged that locations where citizens of countries friendly to Russia live and work had been deliberately targeted in an attempt to create distrust and damage relations between Russia and those countries.
Moscow said recent attacks had claimed the lives not only of Russian civilians but also of foreign nationals, and called on the international community to condemn the incident.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the families and relatives of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Russian authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack. Further details regarding the nature of the strike, its intended targets and responsibility remain subject to clarification through the relevant official investigations.
