Russian Foreign Ministry Says 13 Killed in Nizhnekamsk Attack, Most of Them Foreign Nationals

At least 13 people were killed in an attack on Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan on August 10, with most of the victims reported to be foreign nationals, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said preliminary information indicated that eight citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Tajikistan were among those killed. Around 20 foreign nationals were also reported wounded.

The Russian side said the attack targeted civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk and accused Ukrainian forces of carrying it out. Zakharova alleged that facilities where citizens of countries friendly to Russia live and work had been deliberately targeted with the aim of damaging relations between Russia and those countries.

She said such attacks had claimed the lives not only of Russian civilians but also of foreign nationals.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wished the wounded a speedy recovery. It also called on the international community to condemn the attack.

Russian authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack. Further details concerning the nature of the strike, its intended targets and responsibility remain subject to clarification through the relevant investigations.
