Differences Emerge Between Dhawal Shamsher Rana and Durga Prasai Camp Ahead of Jay Nepal Party Registration

Differences have reportedly emerged between the groups led by Dr. Dhawal Shamsher Rana and campaigner Durga Prasai even before their proposed new political party, the Jay Nepal Party, has been formally registered with the Election Commission.

The two sides had agreed that Dr. Rana, who recently parted ways with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, would serve as party chairman, while Prasai would hold the position of “supreme leader.” The party had initially planned to complete formal registration on Shrawan 28, but the process has now been postponed.

Prasai said through social media that preparations related to party formation, organizational structure and other necessary matters had not yet been completed. He said a new registration date would be announced once the required preparations were finalized.

However, a leader close to the Rana camp claimed that the delay was linked to disagreements over issues that had previously been considered settled.

According to the leader, further discussion is required over internal ranking, leadership of the parliamentary party after the next election, and authority over the signing of candidate nomination tickets. The earlier understanding, according to the Rana side, was that Prasai would serve as supreme leader after Dr. Rana and would lead the parliamentary party following the election.

The Rana camp has also claimed that Prasai’s side has recently raised the issue of securing first-ranking status within the party and has proposed that Prasai should also sign election tickets issued to candidates. The group has warned that continued disagreement over such issues could affect the broader unification process.

Prasai’s camp, however, has rejected suggestions of a rift. Madhav Nirdosh, a leader from the Prasai side, said the unification process remains ongoing and that a task force meeting was continuing.

Asked why the planned registration on Shrawan 28 had been postponed, Nirdosh said astrologers had advised that the date was not considered auspicious for party registration.

The two sides have therefore presented differing explanations for the delay. A final decision on the party’s leadership structure, internal ranking, election-related authority and a new registration date has yet to be announced.
