Up to Five Years in Prison for Organising Illegal Migration in Russia

Dragon Media News Desk

Individuals involved in organising or facilitating illegal migration in Russia may face up to five years in prison, according to materials released by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The ministry said Russia is continuing to strengthen its migration system as part of broader efforts to counter what it describes as potentially destabilising activities originating from abroad.

Authorities have also warned that those involved in fraudulent or sham schemes designed to legalise the status of migrants in the country will face prosecution.

Russian officials say legal and administrative mechanisms are being further tightened to combat illegal migration, verify the lawful status of foreign nationals and prevent abuse of the country’s migration system.
