Russia’s median monthly salary has increased by 85 percent over the past five years, rising from 35,370 rubles to 65,307 rubles.

According to Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, the median salary increased by nearly 30,000 rubles during the period.

He said Russia’s average monthly salary also rose significantly over the same five-year period, increasing by 78 percent from 57,244 rubles to 101,784 rubles. In absolute terms, this represents an increase of around 44,540 rubles.

The median salary represents the midpoint of the wage distribution, meaning half of workers earn less than that amount while the other half earn more.

For this reason, the median salary is often considered a useful indicator of the earnings of typical workers, as it is less affected by exceptionally high incomes than the average salary.

The figures indicate that both median and average wages in Russia have recorded substantial growth over the past five years.
