Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Gita Chaudhary has said the government has placed the creation of employment opportunities in the agriculture, forestry and environmental sectors among its key priorities.

In a message issued on Wednesday to mark International Youth Day, Minister Chaudhary emphasized the need to harness young people’s innovative thinking, energy and determination for national prosperity.

She said young people have already been making important contributions to agricultural development as well as the protection of forests and the environment, and stressed the need to further expand their participation.

Describing youth as a major force for national development, Minister Chaudhary said effective youth empowerment also requires connecting rural areas with technology. She noted that wider access to technology could help create new opportunities for rural youth in agriculture, forestry, environmental protection and entrepreneurship.

This year’s theme for International Youth Day is “Different Contexts, Shared Aspirations.” The day has been observed annually on August 12 since 2000 at the call of the United Nations.

International Youth Day is marked to promote youth-centered policymaking, expand youth participation in decision-making and strengthen national and international advocacy on issues affecting young people.
