Ravindra Mehta, Victim of Kaptanganj Shooting, to Be Cremated Wednesday

Ravindra Mehta, who was seriously injured in the Kaptanganj shooting incident in Dewanganj Rural Municipality of Sunsari and later died while undergoing treatment, is being cremated on Wednesday.

Mehta was critically injured in the shooting that took place in Kaptanganj on the night of Shrawan 10. He died on Shrawan 19 while receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

His body was brought to Sunsari by helicopter on Wednesday morning after a seven-point agreement was reached between the victim’s family and the government on Monday night.

According to local resident Vivek Mehta, the body arrived at around 10:30 a.m. and was taken in a procession through Harinagar Rural Municipality and Dewanganj Rural Municipality as a mark of respect.

After the procession, the body was placed at Kaptanganj Chowk, near the site of the incident. Funeral rites are scheduled to be performed there in accordance with local religious and social traditions.

Earlier, Jay Prakash Mehta and Om Prakash Mehta, who were also killed in the Kaptanganj shooting, were cremated at the same location.

Ravindra Mehta had initially been treated at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar after sustaining serious injuries. He was later transferred to Kathmandu for further treatment as his condition remained critical.

Mehta was the only son in his family. He is survived by his parents, two elder sisters and one younger sister.

Three people have died in connection with the Kaptanganj shooting in Sunsari. In subsequent violence, Ganesh Yadav was also killed after being shot in Golbazar, Siraha.
