Landslide in Rolpa’s Thabang Kills Two, Leaves 10 Missing

At least two people have died, two others have been seriously injured, and 10 remain out of contact after a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall buried houses and cattle sheds in Botalbara of Thabang Rural Municipality-5, Rolpa.

The landslide struck at around 8:45 pm on Wednesday, damaging about six houses and sheds, including the home of local resident Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar.

Police identified the deceased as 18-year-old Shanti Pun Magar and around 60-year-old Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, both residents of Botalbara.

Two others, 22-year-old Himal Pun Magar and 25-year-old Sanjay Gharti Magar, sustained serious injuries. Authorities said coordination was underway to arrange their treatment.

Search and rescue operations resumed early Thursday morning for the 10 people who remain missing. Personnel from all three security agencies have been deployed to the affected area, with local residents also assisting in the rescue efforts.

Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri and district security chiefs have reached the site and are coordinating the operation.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Panch Bahadur Baku of the District Police Office, Rolpa, the landslide originated from the upper section of the hill above the settlement.

The landslide swept away a road, six to seven houses and other structures toward the Uwa stream, police said.

Search and rescue operations are continuing, and a full assessment of the damage is yet to be completed.
