Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index opened lower on Friday, falling 177.36 points, or 0.70 percent, to 25,219.15 points.
Based on the opening level, the index had closed the previous trading session at approximately 25,396.51 points. The decline at the start of Friday’s session indicated a cautious tone among investors in early trading.
The Hang Seng Index is one of the main benchmarks used to gauge the performance of Hong Kong’s stock market. It reflects movements in the share prices of major companies listed in the city, including firms in the financial, technology, property, consumer and China-related sectors.
The direction of the market, however, can change during the trading day depending on sector performance, investor sentiment and broader regional and global market developments.
As one of Asia’s major financial centers, Hong Kong’s stock market is closely watched by investors for indications of market sentiment toward China and the wider Asian economy.
