Government Forms Facilitation Committee to Implement Agreements with Gen Z Protest Victims and Martyrs’ Families

The government has formed a coordination and facilitation committee to implement agreements reached with those injured in last year’s Gen Z movement and the families of those killed during the protests, as well as an integrated support package approved for affected families.

According to Hemraj Aryal, joint secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the body has been named the “Gen Z Agreement and Integrated Package Implementation Coordination and Facilitation Committee.”

The committee will review progress in implementing the agreement reached between the government and Gen Z representatives on Mangsir 24, 2082 BS, as well as the integrated package approved by the Council of Ministers on Asar 18, 2083 BS.

It has also been tasked with coordinating among ministries and other government agencies involved in implementing the package.

The committee will serve as a direct contact point for injured protesters and the families of those killed during the movement. It will facilitate implementation of provisions related to education, healthcare, employment and other sensitive areas covered by the approved package.

The committee will also identify practical problems and complications that may arise during implementation and recommend corrective measures to the relevant authorities.

It may invite government and non-government representatives, as well as subject experts, to meetings and consultations whenever necessary.

The committee includes one undersecretary each from the ministries responsible for home affairs, finance, education and sports, youth, labour and employment, infrastructure development, health and food safety, and women, children, gender and sexual minorities, and social security.

Two representatives each from the families of those killed in the Gen Z movement and from injured families will also serve as members.

Basudev Khanal, an undersecretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, has been appointed member-secretary of the committee.

The new mechanism is expected to help ensure that the commitments made in the agreement and integrated package move beyond formal pledges and are translated into actual support for affected families.
