Prime Minister to Face Question-and-Answer Session in House on Bhadra 10

Prime Minister Balen Shah is scheduled to take part in a question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives on Bhadra 10.

During Monday’s House meeting, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal issued a ruling directing the Prime Minister to participate in the question-and-answer session in accordance with Rule 56 of the House of Representatives Rules, 2083.

Following the Speaker’s ruling, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat that Shah would appear before the House on Bhadra 10 to respond to lawmakers’ questions.

Members of the House of Representatives will be able to submit their questions to the Secretary of the House by Bhadra 5. The Prime Minister will respond to selected questions in accordance with parliamentary procedure.

Shah had previously made an unscheduled appearance in the House on Jestha 17 and responded to various issues. Remarks he made at the time concerning a border-related matter subsequently generated political controversy.

Opposition parties had since been demanding that the Prime Minister appear before the House and respond to questions on national and contemporary issues.

The Bhadra 10 session will provide lawmakers with an opportunity to directly question the Prime Minister on government performance, national policy, current political developments and other matters of public concern.

The question-and-answer session is also expected to reinforce the parliamentary practice of holding the head of government directly accountable to the legislature.
