Two Nepal Airlines Employees Arrested at TIA with US$8,600

Nepal Police have arrested two employees of Nepal Airlines Corporation at Tribhuvan International Airport for allegedly attempting to carry foreign currency abroad in violation of regulations.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 54-year-old Janani Bajracharya of Gongabu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, and 35-year-old Mamata Pandey of Gorkha Municipality-3.

According to Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Silwal, spokesperson for the Airport Security Office, police recovered US$4,300 from Bajracharya and another US$4,300 from Pandey, bringing the total amount seized to US$8,600.

Police said the two were preparing to travel from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur on Nepal Airlines flight RA-15.

The foreign currency was discovered during a security check in the international departure hand-baggage screening area, according to police.

The two employees, along with the seized currency, have been sent to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation in Pulchowk for further investigation and necessary legal action, SP Silwal said.
