LEFF Film Festival Brings New Russian and Regional Cinema to Lenfilm

The seventh International LEFF Film Festival is underway at the historic Lenfilm studio in St. Petersburg, Russia, bringing together new Russian and regional cinema.

The festival opened on August 20 and continues through Saturday, with Lenfilm serving as one of its principal venues.

The opening programme featured Vladimir Kott’s comedy “Dedmobil,” starring Yuri Stoyanov and Sergei Burunov. The festival screening took place around three months before the film’s planned nationwide theatrical release on November 26.

Competition titles are being screened alongside films presented through a ROSKINO programme, expanding the festival’s international and regional dimension.

Saturday’s Lenfilm programme includes screenings of “Kazbek,” “Paradise at Mothers’ Feet 2” and “Dastur: The Curse.”

As one of the historic centers of Russian filmmaking, Lenfilm provides a significant setting for a festival designed to introduce new productions, regional stories and filmmakers to wider audiences while maintaining connections between Russia’s established cinema institutions and emerging work.
