Russian Family Adventure ‘Legend of the Scythian Gold’ Opens in Cinemas

Russian family adventure film “Legend of the Scythian Gold” opened in cinemas on August 20, combining an archaeological mystery with a story aimed at children and family audiences.

Directed by Vyacheslav Kazantsev, the 107-minute film blends elements of comedy, detective fiction and adventure.

The story follows the Gavrilov family during a holiday when ancient Scythian artifacts disappear from a local museum. Petya, a curious boy inspired by the detective novels written by his father, begins investigating the disappearance with his friends.

The film is based on a story by Russian children’s author Dmitry Yemets.

By placing archaeological heritage at the center of a youth adventure, the production represents a different strand of contemporary Russian cinema from the war, historical epic and crime films that often attract greater international attention.

The film seeks to combine entertainment with interest in history and archaeology, using a child-led investigation to introduce younger audiences to questions of cultural heritage, responsibility and discovery.
