Dragon Media News Desk

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has become the highest-grossing R-rated film in global box-office history.

Released on July 17, the film has earned approximately $1.352 billion worldwide, surpassing the previous record of about $1.338 billion held by “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

“The Odyssey” has generated around $516 million in North America and approximately $835 million from international markets.

Its performance in premium formats has been particularly significant. The film has earned about $354 million from IMAX screenings, setting another global record for the format.

Based on Homer’s ancient epic, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with a cast that also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

The commercial performance of “The Odyssey” demonstrates that a large-scale filmmaker-driven production can achieve franchise-level global reach even in a theatrical market heavily dominated by superheroes, sequels and established entertainment properties.
