Mudslides and Landslides Kill 6, Leave 9 Missing in East China’s Jiangxi

At least six people have been confirmed dead and nine others remain missing after a series of mudslides and landslides struck Suichuan County in east China’s Jiangxi Province following days of heavy rainfall.

According to local authorities, a mudslide and landslide hit Mingkeng Village in Gaoping Township on Saturday. As of Tuesday noon, five people had been confirmed dead and seven others were still missing.

Additional landslides were reported in Zuo’an Township and Tanghu Township in the same county after several days of torrential rain. One person was confirmed dead in those incidents, while two others remain missing.

The latest figures bring the total death toll from the mudslides and landslides in Suichuan County to six, with nine people still unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas as emergency teams work to locate the missing.

Authorities are also reinforcing damaged roads, restoring transport access and taking measures to prevent secondary disasters, including further landslides and debris flows.

With prolonged rainfall increasing geological risks in mountainous areas, local authorities have placed continued monitoring, rescue operations and public safety among their highest priorities.
