Lavrov Says Russia–Saudi Arabia Relations Have a Special and Enduring Character

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia are not dependent on the current political climate and remain focused on implementing agreements reached by the leadership of the two countries.

Speaking at the opening of talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Moscow on Monday, Lavrov expressed appreciation that the Saudi minister had made time to visit Russia despite the difficult regional situation. He said the visit underscored the special nature of Russia–Saudi Arabia relations.

Lavrov noted that 2026 marks the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia, describing the anniversary as an important opportunity to conduct a detailed review of the current state of bilateral ties.

According to Lavrov, cooperation between the two countries continues to expand in trade, the economy, investment, culture and humanitarian affairs. He said the talks would also cover regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.

The Russian foreign minister emphasized that Moscow is sincerely interested in supporting efforts to reduce tensions in the region and in helping address other regional issues through dialogue and cooperation.

Russia and Saudi Arabia have expanded cooperation in recent years across energy, investment, trade and regional political issues. The latest high-level talks in Moscow are being viewed as part of continued efforts to strengthen the long-term partnership between the two countries.
