Chinese Support for Post-Flood Recovery Will Continue: Ambassador Chang Maoming

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Maoming has said that China will continue supporting the recovery of areas affected by the flood that swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems.

During a visit to Nuwakot to assess the damage caused by the flood and the condition of affected residents, Ambassador Chang said China has been providing relief to help ease the difficult situation and will continue extending necessary assistance during the recovery phase.

According to the ambassador, the Chinese government has supported search and rescue operations, relief distribution and the operation of holding centres. He also said China has already provided an additional US$2 million in assistance to the Government of Nepal.

“Nepal has suffered major loss of life and property due to the flood, and we are deeply saddened by this,” Ambassador Chang said. “China will continue providing the necessary support to the Government of Nepal for the recovery of damaged schools, roads, houses and other physical infrastructure.”

Ambassador Chang also held discussions with officials of the District Disaster Management Committee to receive updates on the scale of the damage, relief efforts and the overall recovery situation.

He later visited several flood-affected locations in Wards 1 and 10 of Bidur Municipality. He also inspected the holding centre operating at the covered hall in Ward 2 of Bidur Municipality.

During his interaction with flood-affected residents from Rasuwa and Nuwakot staying at the holding centre, Ambassador Chang expressed concern about their accommodation, food, health conditions and future needs.

China’s commitment to continue support beyond immediate rescue and relief into reconstruction and long-term recovery is expected to further strengthen Nepal-China cooperation in disaster response and recovery.
