Many Western Intellectuals Understand Why Russia Launched Special Military Operation: Fadeyev

A significant number of intellectuals in Western countries understand why Russia was compelled to launch its “special military operation” in Ukraine, according to Valery Fadeyev, head of Russia’s Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.
Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, Fadeyev said that informed and thoughtful people in the West understand Russia’s reasoning behind the decision to begin the military operation.
According to him, those who closely examine the circumstances recognise that “Russia was forced to defend itself.”
Fadeyev’s remarks reflect Moscow’s longstanding official position on the conflict. The Russian government has consistently framed the military operation launched in 2022 as a response to what it considers serious threats to Russia’s national security and strategic interests.
His comments also suggest that, despite widespread criticism of Russia among Western governments, Moscow believes there remains a section of Western academic, intellectual and analytical opinion that views the origins of the conflict through a broader security and geopolitical perspective.
