China, India Making Arrangements for Xi-Modi Meeting at BRICS Summit

China and India are making arrangements for a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the upcoming 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing on Friday that preparations are underway for the two leaders to meet on the sidelines of the summit.

If the meeting takes place, it will mark the third consecutive year in which Xi and Modi have met, following their previous meetings in Kazan and Tianjin.

Mao said China is ready to work with India under the strategic guidance of the two leaders and to view bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

She stressed the need to strengthen communication, expand cooperation and properly manage differences between the two countries.

China hopes to develop relations with India as good-neighborly friends and partners that support each other’s success, Mao said.
