Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a Russian-language edition of the ancient Indian classic “Tirukkural.”
Modi handed over the book to Putin in New Delhi during the BRICS Summit.
“Tirukkural” is regarded as one of the most important classical works of Tamil literature. The text contains teachings on ethics, conduct, governance, social relations, love and human behaviour.
The presentation of a Russian-language edition was seen as a symbolic gesture reflecting the cultural ties and literary exchanges between India and Russia.
The gift also carried broader significance as the two countries continue high-level political, economic and strategic engagement during the BRICS Summit.
Against the backdrop of long-standing India-Russia relations, the cultural gesture highlighted the historical friendship and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
