China Calls for Stronger Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation with East African Countries

China has said it will strengthen cooperation with East African countries to improve law enforcement capabilities and jointly combat transnational crime.

Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong made the remarks at the third China-East Africa Ministerial Dialogue on Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation, held on Thursday in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.

Wang said the two sides should uphold the principles of joint consultation, shared responsibility and shared benefits, while further consolidating and improving mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation.

He noted that strategic mutual trust between law enforcement agencies in China and East African countries has continued to grow. Wang called for coordinated efforts to combat transnational crimes including terrorism, kidnapping, unlawful detention, and telecom and online fraud.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Wang Xiaohong and Rwandan Minister of Interior Vincent Biruta.

Representatives from East African countries and the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation, AFRIPOL, expressed their willingness to deepen practical cooperation with China in law enforcement and security.

They said stronger cooperation could contribute to greater regional security and stability.
