ADB Approves $3 Million Grant to Address Violence Against Women and Children in Mongolia

The Asian Development Bank has approved a $3 million grant to help Mongolia prevent and respond to violence against women and children through safer schools, stronger survivor support services and policy reforms.

Of the total financing, $1 million will come from the Asian Development Fund, while $2 million will be provided through the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific, financed by the Government of Japan through the ADB.

Under the Preventing and Responding to Gender-Based Violence in Mongolia project, safer learning environments will be created for around 19,500 students, including children with disabilities. Comprehensive violence prevention programs will also be introduced in 12 schools.

The project will strengthen support services for survivors and young people at risk through recovery, rehabilitation and empowerment programs. It will also build the capacity of teachers, social workers, psychologists and other frontline service providers.

In addition, the project will support policy and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the prevention of and response to violence against women. Emerging forms of online abuse and digital violence will also be addressed under the initiative.
