Lavrov Meets Representatives of Ten Countries During UN General Assembly

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met representatives of ten countries during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussions covered bilateral relations, trade, regional security and cooperation at the UN, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

With Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Lavrov discussed relations between the two countries and diplomatic approaches to regional disputes, including the Western Sahara issue. Talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein focused on trade and humanitarian cooperation, as well as easing tensions in the Persian Gulf region. In a meeting with Abdullah Al-Alimi, a deputy chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Lavrov discussed efforts to advance internal political dialogue in Yemen under UN auspices, the ministry said.

Lavrov and Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim discussed the armed conflict in Sudan, the country’s sovereignty and bilateral cooperation. Tourism and other areas of practical cooperation featured in talks with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam. The Russian ministry said Lavrov also exchanged views on bilateral and international issues with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Guyanese Foreign Minister Hugh Todd.

Talks with Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin covered trade, cooperation at the UN and dialogue with Latin American countries. Lavrov and Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco Alvarez discussed trade, cultural ties and cooperation in international forums.

Lavrov also discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Ukraine with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting took place at Germany’s request, and Wadephul reiterated his government’s publicly stated position. The Russian accounts of the meetings did not announce any new agreements.
