Putin and Vučić Discuss Energy Cooperation and the Balkans by Phone

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke by phone on Saturday at Serbia’s initiative. They discussed their countries’ strategic partnership, energy cooperation and international developments, according to the Russian presidency.
The two leaders discussed cooperation in oil and gas, transport and healthcare. Vučić thanked Russia for its support to Serbia, particularly its assistance in fighting wildfires. He also congratulated Putin on the recent State Duma elections in Russia.
According to the Russian presidency, Vučić briefed Putin on preparations for early parliamentary elections in Serbia. Both leaders said external interference in electoral processes was unacceptable. They also discussed the war in Ukraine and Vučić’s participation in the UN General Assembly.
On the Balkans, the leaders called for preserving the framework established by the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Russian account said they also discussed protecting the rights and interests of Republika Srpska. No new agreement was announced following the call.
