China Remains a Strategic Priority for US Companies, Business Group Says
Dragon Media News Desk
American companies continue to regard China as a strategic market because of its scale, supply chains, pace of innovation and skilled workforce, according to Harley Seyedin, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China. In an interview with the Global Times, he said competing in China also strengthens US firms’ capabilities worldwide.
The chamber’s 2026 report on business in South China found that 45 percent of surveyed companies ranked China as their top global investment priority, while 75 percent planned to reinvest there this year. The figures reflect the companies surveyed and should not be taken as representing every US company.
Seyedin said businesses with long-established operations in China had built local teams and strong relationships with customers and suppliers. He identified further opportunities in clean energy, energy storage, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and biopharmaceuticals.
Representatives of US companies operating in China also said stable economic relations between the two countries would benefit businesses and consumers. Despite political and trade disagreements, the size of China’s market and its manufacturing ecosystem remain important factors in their commercial decisions.
