Search Following Nepal Flood Has Not Ended, Russian Embassy Says

The Russian Embassy in Nepal has rejected reports that the search operation following the devastating August 26 flood has ended. Although some Russian media outlets reported that the operation was over, Nepali authorities have made no announcement to that effect, the embassy said.

The embassy said it had received no information confirming a DNA match between the close relatives of missing Russian citizens and bodies recovered after the disaster. Their identities therefore remain unconfirmed.

Addressing questions about landslides in the Himalayas in recent days, the embassy said Nepal’s Tourist Police had no information indicating that Russian citizens were among those affected.

The clarification gives families and the public a firmer basis for following the search. Until Nepali authorities announce a conclusion and identification results are confirmed, reports about the fate of missing people must be handled with care.
