UML Parliament Member Criticises Government Over Displaced Families and Appointments

UML parliament member Guru Baral has accused Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s government of failing to deliver the results expected of it during its first six months. Speaking to journalists outside Parliament on Tuesday, he criticised its handling of displaced families, appointments to public bodies and the cost of living.

Baral said families removed from informal settlements had yet to be properly resettled. He also alleged that the government had removed officials from public institutions, academies, universities and corporations and appointed its own preferred candidates to 85 positions. The account of his remarks did not include a list of those appointments or evidence about how the candidates were selected.

Baral argued that the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s pledge to “choose those who know how” was not reflected in its appointments. He claimed the selection process lacked transparency and that party supporters were being awarded five additional points. The basis for that allegation and the response of the institutions concerned have not been independently established.

He further accused the prime minister of failing to answer questions raised in Parliament and said citizens were facing rising prices and artificial shortages. Assessing the government’s six-month record will require checking these opposition claims against official appointment records, resettlement measures and market data.
