At least seven people were killed and about 20 others injured when a truck struck a multi-utility vehicle in India’s southwestern state of Maharashtra early Friday, police said.
The crash occurred at around 12:45 a.m. on the Samruddhi Expressway in Amravati district. A truck travelling at high speed hit the slower-moving vehicle from behind, according to a local police official.
The vehicle was carrying an idol of a goddess and about 30 Hindu devotees. The injured were taken to a nearby government hospital, where some were reported to be in critical condition.
