Myanmar held a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday to mark the International Day of Older Persons, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Soe Win said the ceremony honoured older people for their experience and knowledge, their service to their families and country, and their contributions to community and national development.
This year’s observance was held under the theme “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”
Soe Win stressed the need to prepare proactively for the needs of a growing older population and called for collective efforts to ensure that older people have access to appropriate healthcare.
