Ten miners trapped by a tunnel collapse at a gold mine in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province were safely rescued on Thursday afternoon, a provincial police spokesman said.
The miners were extracting ore inside a tunnel in Chah Ab district when it collapsed on Wednesday morning, trapping them underground. A rescue team was dispatched to the site soon after the incident, the spokesman said.
Local residents and police joined the operation. After more than 34 hours of rescue efforts, all ten miners were brought out safely, he said.
