Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov attended an event organised by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on October 1 to mark the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Alipov and Municipal Corporation of Delhi head Pravesh Wahi inaugurated the “Tolstoy–Gandhi” exhibition, prepared by the Russian Embassy. It features copies of letters exchanged between the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy and Gandhi, alongside materials reflecting their philosophical ideas and intellectual dialogue.

In his remarks, Alipov said the shared philosophical legacy of Tolstoy and Gandhi continued to serve as a bridge between Russia and India. He said the exhibition highlights the influence of Tolstoy’s ideas on Gandhi, a leader of India’s national liberation movement.

Among those attending the opening were Alexander Dodonov, head of the Russian House in Delhi, representatives of government and diplomatic circles, municipal officials and journalists. The formal ceremony was followed by a discussion on the exhibition and the intellectual connection between the two thinkers.
