The Russian Defense Ministry has said it will step up strikes on military and defence industry targets in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. The ministry said the move would follow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent statement.
The ministry accused Kyiv’s leadership of attempting to disrupt the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly. It alleged that missile and drone attacks on civilian facilities in Russia had targeted election commissions at polling stations, killing six civilians. The ministry also said Zelensky bore full personal and political responsibility for the alleged attacks.
According to the ministry, the Ukrainian army attacked residential areas of Belgorod overnight on Sunday. Claiming there were no military facilities in the area, the ministry said the attack caused civilian casualties and damaged apartment buildings, private homes and vehicles.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it would increase strikes on military and defence industry facilities, as well as related infrastructure, in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. The accounts of the Belgorod attack and the alleged attempts to disrupt the elections are presented as claims by the ministry.
