Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have decided to advance the implementation of their joint defence commitments and take steps to deploy agreed military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia as soon as possible.
Representatives of the three countries met on Monday in Riyadh for an emergency session of the Makkah Alliance for Defence’s Strategic-Political and Defence Committee to discuss security developments and threats facing the kingdom. A joint statement said the deployment would proceed under approved arrangements and in accordance with the member states’ national laws.
The statement condemned attempts to target Mecca and Medina, as well as continuing attacks on Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities. Pakistan and Türkiye praised the vigilance and readiness of Saudi Arabia’s armed forces and reaffirmed their support for the kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.
The committee also appointed Pakistan’s retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the alliance’s first secretary-general for a three-year term.
The statement said the security of each member state is an integral part of the collective security of all three countries. It did not specify a deployment timeline or the number of forces to be sent.
