Ashok Rokaya “Sankalpa,” Who Stayed Committed to the Movement Despite Losing Both Sons, Dies

Ashok Rokaya “Sankalpa,” a devoted revolutionary leader of the Nepali Communist Party, has died while undergoing treatment. Rokaya, who had been admitted to Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, died at 1 a.m. today due to multiple organ failure. He had long suffered from liver disease. Sankalpa, who fought for the people and continued to prevail, lost his battle with illness after more than two decades.
Rokaya devoted his life to the movement for change and revolution and lost both his sons during the struggle. Despite profound family grief and many hardships, he remained committed to his party and the movement. His life will be remembered as an example of sacrifice, dedication and struggle.
During his treatment, party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” Shakti Basnet, Janardan Sharma, Gopal Sharma and other leaders visited Teaching Hospital to inquire about his condition.
Rokaya’s wife, daughter Manju Rokaya “Asha,” and son-in-law Jhak Bahadur Malla “Sudip” remain active in party work. Sudip had travelled to China on work, but after his father-in-law’s condition became critical, he changed his travel plans and is returning to Kathmandu.
Rokaya’s body will be kept at the party office for a brief period for tributes. His family said the funeral will take place after his son-in-law arrives in Kathmandu. Hundreds have paid tribute through various channels to his contribution to the party and the movement for change.
