Nepal–Russia Consultations Discuss Nepalis in Russian Army and Missing Nationals

A meeting of bilateral consultations between Nepal and Russia concluded in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Held on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the meeting reviewed the overall state of relations between the two countries, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.


The discussions covered Nepali nationals serving in the Russian Army, missing Nepalis, Nepali nationals detained in Ukraine as prisoners of war, and compensation. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues, climate change and cooperation within multilateral systems.


Both countries praised their longstanding friendship and close partnership, and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in education, human resource development, culture, tourism, climate change, trade and investment.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai led the Nepali delegation, while Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko led the Russian delegation. The protocol on consultations between the foreign ministries of Nepal and Russia was signed on September 5, 1995.
