Efforts by countries mediating between Iran and the United States to resolve the conflict have reached a deadlock, a senior U.S. source said. The television channel Al Hadath quoted the source as saying Washington had sent Tehran a message that no progress in bilateral talks would be made until Iran’s nuclear capabilities were curtailed.
According to the source, the U.S. position is that talks will not advance until Iran’s nuclear capabilities are brought under control. Washington is now seeking a commitment from Tehran that it will no longer develop those capabilities, the source said.
The source also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer a priority for Washington. According to the U.S. assessment, Iran has lost control of the strait.
