Jantar Mantar Removed as Delhi Protest Site; Three Alternatives Named

Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated venues for protests and sit-ins in New Delhi. Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi have been named as alternatives.

According to a notice issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar on Monday, the decision was made on the recommendation of a committee formed by the Union Home Ministry.

The notice says the committee was tasked with reviewing alternative venues while taking into account citizens’ right to hold protests and sit-ins. Separate standard operating procedures for demonstrations at the three venues will be issued, it said.
