Putin Ready to Halt Strikes on Ukraine on Election Day: Peskov

Dragon Media News Desk

Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to order the military to suspend strikes on Ukraine on the day elections are held there, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

According to Peskov, if Ukraine genuinely wants to hold elections, Putin could issue the order in his capacity as supreme commander-in-chief. He stressed that the proposed suspension would apply specifically to election day.

Commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that Ukraine would need 60 days to organise elections, Peskov said Russia wanted a lasting peace that would endure for generations, rather than a temporary ceasefire. He also said Russia had been prepared to resume peace talks immediately after holding its own State Duma elections.

Peskov accused Ukraine of targeting Moscow and polling stations in Russia’s new regions, and of attacking members of district election commissions. He said these incidents had prompted Putin to consider when negotiations should resume.
