Nine Russian Trekkers Stranded in Gorkha

Nine Russian tourists trekking in the Manaslu region have been stranded in Jagat village, Gorkha District, after flooding on the Budhi Gandaki River on October 11 destroyed roads and trails, according to the Russian Embassy in Nepal.
The embassy said there was no immediate threat to the tourists’ lives or health. They had moved to higher ground for safety and were hoping to be evacuated by helicopter, but conditions for staying overnight were poor.
The tourists would have to pay for a helicopter evacuation themselves, the embassy said. Their insurance does not cover helicopter evacuation following a flood, and they do not have the funds to pay for it.
The embassy said it had asked local authorities to consider evacuating the Russian nationals.
