Parliamentary Hearing Committee Rejects Nomination of Ambassador-Designate to Saudi Arabia

Dragon Media Correspondent

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously rejected the nomination of Giri Bahadur Sunar as Nepal’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The committee cited a complaint related to violence against a woman and questions about his moral character.

Before the decision, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Gazala Shamin Miya Mikrani said that, following discussions, she considered Sunar unfit for the ambassadorial post. RSP Chief Whip Kavindra Burlakoti said Sunar’s presentation, documents and qualifications appeared sound, but a past incident had raised concerns about his moral character.

Committee Chair Bodh Narayan Shrestha proposed endorsing Sunar’s nomination, but the committee unanimously rejected it. The government had nominated him for the post on October 2.
