Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar has said he will not accept public criticism directed at a woman he describes as innocent in connection with allegations against him. In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, he said any investigation or action should be directed at him and that the woman should not be harassed.

Sunar criticised what he called a media trial and exaggerated coverage involving the woman’s photographs, audio and video. He questioned the relevance of pursuing her based on what he described as speculation about an incident from a point in her past.

He said that if he had committed any wrongdoing, the police or courts should investigate him and impose punishment as appropriate, while protecting the woman’s identity. He also questioned why she was being pursued despite, he said, asking media outlets not to publish inaccurate reports.

Sunar claimed that police headquarters and the Central Investigation Bureau had repeatedly asked him to meet and file a case. He alleged that after the woman said she would file a case herself if she had been wronged, she was threatened that both of them would be “finished at once.” He said the latest developments followed a few days later.

Sunar said he was willing to face questions and an investigation into every allegation against him. “Whatever action is due should be taken against me—I accept it. Attacks on her are unacceptable and wrong,” he wrote.
