Dragon Media News Desk

Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has approved a 90-day extension of martial law. A total of 293 lawmakers voted in favor of the measure on Monday. This was the 21st time parliament had voted to extend martial law. The new period will begin on October 31 and remain in force until January 29, 2027.

Parliament also voted to extend general mobilization for another 90 days, with 281 lawmakers supporting the measure. Martial law and general mobilization were introduced on February 24, 2022.

Ukraine has held no parliamentary, presidential or local elections while martial law has been in force. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s elected five-year term ended on May 20, 2024. Under Ukraine’s Constitution, however, the president remains in office until a successor is elected and assumes the post.
