Peskov Says Alyoshki Ceasefire Was Agreed to Cover Areas Beyond the City

The ceasefire around Alyoshki, in Russia’s Kherson Region, was agreed from the outset to cover areas beyond the city, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Asked about US First Lady Melania Trump’s statement that the ceasefire zone had been extended beyond Alyoshki, Peskov said the issue had been discussed for several days. Asked whether the original agreement covered more than the city itself, he said it had, and urged people to read the public statements on Alyoshki carefully.

On October 23, the White House announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed, with Melania Trump’s assistance, to a ceasefire in Alyoshki. It initially said the ceasefire would begin on October 29 and would allow humanitarian aid deliveries and preparations to evacuate civilians along a designated safe corridor.

However, subsequent reports said the ceasefire took effect on October 27. Melania Trump said the zone had been extended beyond the city to provide safe passage for humanitarian convoys.
