No Real Change in Moscow–Washington Ties, Lavrov Says

Dragon Media News Desk

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said problems between Moscow and Washington persist, with no substantial change in practice. He made the remarks at a press conference after the first day of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta.

“We haven’t seen any real shifts in practice,” Lavrov said. He added that fundamental differences between the two countries remain unresolved, citing U.S. sanctions on Russia and Washington’s continued military support for Ukraine.

Lavrov also cautioned against reading too much into the Russia–U.S. diesel deal. He had previously described the arrangement as a commercial agreement without political conditions. His latest remarks suggest that the deal should not be taken as evidence of a broader improvement in relations.

Despite the diesel agreement, differences over the war in Ukraine and other issues continue to shape relations between Moscow and Washington.
