BEIJING — China’s television and online audiovisual sectors have each grown into vast markets with more than 1 billion users, according to an industry report released on Tuesday.
The report said China had more than 1 billion television users by the end of 2025. The country’s online audiovisual services had 1.099 billion users by the end of that year.
Commissioned by the National Radio and Television Administration and compiled by its development research center, the report examined the radio and television sectors alongside online audiovisual services within a unified research framework.
Chinese viewers watched a total of 638.7 billion hours of television in 2025, averaging 4 hours and 5 minutes per day. Users of online audiovisual services spent an average of 201 minutes a day on those platforms.
Revenue across China’s radio, television and online audiovisual industries exceeded 1.546 trillion yuan, or about 230 billion U.S. dollars, in 2025. That was a 5.22 percent increase from the previous year and 67.82 percent higher than at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016–2020).
Online audiovisual service providers accounted for 53.63 percent of the industry’s total revenue, the report said.
