The 15th Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Shanghai’s Xuhui District held a meeting on November 3 to review its work over the past five years.

The meeting, themed “Promote Development Through Consultation and Advice; Unite Efforts to Shape the Future,” took place at the Caohejing Conference Centre.

Those attending included Xuhui District Party Secretary Cao Liqiang, District Head Wang Hua, CPPCC Chair Huang Chong and Party group secretary Xia Yujing. Also present were Deputy Party Secretary Hu Fang; Xu Jun, a Standing Committee member and head of the United Front Work Department; CPPCC Vice Chairs Yu Xiaohong, Shi Bin and Feng Zhigang; and Secretary-General and Office Director Shen Yi.

On behalf of the district Party committee, Cao thanked the CPPCC leadership, its Standing Committee and members, as well as representatives of political parties, social groups and other sectors. He said that over the past five years, the district CPPCC had strengthened its political work, supported local development, built broader consensus and improved its organisational capacity.

Cao said the CPPCC should implement the decisions of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, uphold Party leadership throughout its work and bring together expertise from across society to support development. He urged members to conduct field research on the district’s priorities and offer practical advice, while strengthening their role in public service and community engagement.

He also called for higher standards in member conduct, new approaches to consultation and stronger institutional capacity. The district Party committee would continue to support the CPPCC’s work, he said.

Huang said that over the past five years, members had focused on national priorities and Xuhui’s development, conducting research and offering recommendations. Guided by the principle of “not seeking to have the final say, but to say what is right,” members had contributed to the local economy, scientific and technological innovation, and improvements to people’s livelihoods. He added that they had also fulfilled their social responsibilities and remained engaged with the community.

At the meeting, members shared reflections on their work. They described the five-year term as valuable and said they would continue to follow and support Xuhui’s development after their term ended.

National and Shanghai-level CPPCC members based in Xuhui, all district CPPCC members, representatives of the district CPPCC and United Front Work Department, and officials from relevant departments attended the meeting.
