Sacred Image of the 16th Karmapa Enshrined Amidst Samantabhadra Sky Offering; Week-Long Great Accomplishment Practice Continues

Kathmandu — The second day of the fifth edition of the ‘Karkhyen Dungdub Great Accomplishment Practice’ (Hundred-Million Gachen Siddhi Puja Ritual) was successfully completed on Friday, while the programme for the third day continued on Saturday. The great puja, which is being held from April 24 to May 1, 2026, corresponding to Baisakh 11 to 18, 2083 BS, features the sacred image (Bhuvan) of the supremely venerable Jinavar Samyaksambuddha Karmapa, the crown-jewel victor, His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa Rangjung Khyabdag Rigpe Dorjee, enshrined in the foreground, amidst the Samantabhadra Sky Offering within the celestial sphere. Devotees and Buddhist followers from across the world are participating with the prayer invocation ‘Karmapa Khyenno’ (Karmapa Knows).

In the discourse on the third day, the preciousness of human life and the rarity of listening to the Buddhadharma were expounded as the fruit of virtuous deeds accumulated over countless aeons. “In the absence of the Buddha in this world, the Guru, just like the Buddha, reveals the path to liberation for sentient beings. As disciples, we must constantly introspect: what can we do for the Guru, for the Buddhadharma, and for all sentient beings?” the discourse stated. Citing the ‘Bhadracharya Pranidhana Sutra’, the significance of extensive offerings, repentance of karmic obstructions, rejoicing in the merits of others, and beseeching the turning of the Dharma wheel was elucidated.

The discourse further added, “In this Saha world, whoever dedicates their mind to virtuous deeds and the welfare of sentient beings is a follower of the Bodhisattva path. We must establish wholesome connections, rejoice in all virtuous deeds, and praise them.” On the occasion of this most sacred puja ritual, prayers were offered for the good health and longevity of all Gurus and great masters, as well as for world peace, national prosperity, and the happiness of all sentient beings. The organisers informed that Miaoshanlin has been supporting this great puja for the fifth year, with collective participation from Buddhist disciples of various countries. The programme is set to continue for another five days, with a call for interested devotees to participate and accumulate merit.
