Russia Selects Three New World-Class Scientific Centres, Research to Span Longevity Medicine to Space Technology

Kathmandu — Russia has selected three new world-class scientific centres (NCMU) to develop cutting-edge technologies in priority areas designated by President Vladimir Putin. A meeting of the Presidium of the Commission on Scientific and Technological Development, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, announced the results of the competitive selection process.

“President Vladimir Putin, by his decree, has set out the priority directions of scientific and technological development — they are of key importance for the quality of life of our people and the country’s leadership. World-class scientific centres are being established in Russia to develop breakthrough technologies in these areas. Following this selection, their number will increase to 13. Each centre will receive a subsidy of up to 320 million roubles annually,” Chernyshenko stated.

The winning centres are: “Medicine for Healthy Longevity and Cognitive Technologies,” “Onboard Payload,” and “Value Sovereignty: Social Technologies for the Development and Protection of a Value-Stable Individual in the Era of Global Risk.” Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov stressed that the implementation of the development programmes of the three new centres will make a substantial contribution to strengthening the socio-cultural fabric of Russian society, ensuring healthy longevity and personalised medicine, and achieving technological leadership in intelligent transport and telecommunications systems.

A total of 37 applications were submitted for the competition. The additional selection of NCMU was conducted across three priority areas defined by President Putin’s decree.g
