‘Merz Will Face Escalating Accusations Until He Corrects His Mistakes or Quits’: Russian Special Envoy

Kathmandu — Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, has said that accusations against German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will continue to escalate until he learns to correct his mistakes or leaves his post.
Commenting on the withdrawal of US troops from Germany, Dmitriev wrote on X, “Feedback on Merz’s wrong decisions will keep escalating until he learns to correct his mistakes or is no longer in his position.” The Pentagon had earlier announced that it will withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany within the next 6 to 12 months.
US President Donald Trump had earlier said that the United States was considering reducing its military contingent stationed in Germany, Italy, and Spain. The American leader did not elaborate on the reasons behind the move, but the statement came after Merz criticised Washington’s war against Iran, pointing to the lack of a clear strategy. On Tuesday, Trump accused Merz of allegedly “considering Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons acceptable.”
